TED Hose

Anti-Embolism Hose (T.E.D. Hose)

Anti-emboli compression garments, often referred to as "T.E.D. hose," are designed to prevent deep vein blood clots (DVT) in surgical or hospitalized patients. However, it's important to note that T.E.D. hose are specifically for immobilized patients and not intended for those who are ambulatory.

T.E.D. hose, shown effective since the 1970s, aim to reduce DVT incidence in surgical and hospitalized patients. They offer 15-21 mmHg of pressure at the ankle, gradually decreasing up the leg to facilitate venous return. Thigh-high hose are custom-fitted, while knee-high options are available for patients who cannot wear thigh-high hose.

In hospital settings, medical professionals carefully assess the risk of DVT in every patient and take preventive measures if necessary. Patients or their loved ones should inquire with their nurse or doctor about the need for DVT prophylaxis during hospitalization.
