Venous Ulcers

Venous Ulcers

Venous ulcers, a serious consequence of vein disease, affect over 1% of Americans, primarily caused by untreated vein reflux leading to chronic high pressure and open leg wounds. Usually appearing just above the ankle bone due to pressure on lower leg tissues, these ulcers are preventable by addressing vein issues early on, long before ulcers develop. Once an ulcer emerges, compression therapy is crucial, along with a complete leg vein mapping ultrasound to identify the cause. Treating the underlying vein disease before ulcer healing accelerates the recovery process and lowers the chance of recurrence.

At Evansville Regional Vein Center, the treatment of venous ulcers often involves a combination of EVLT and ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy. Using the VenaCure EVLT® 1470 Laser from Angiodynamics®, ERVC focuses on closing down refluxing saphenous veins associated with the condition.
